I’m taking a brief hiatus from the Gracious Wife series, because I haven’t had a chance to write anything lately and this post will sort of explain why…

During the summer, I only worked part time. I was home by 1 p.m. most days, and had several hours before Jason came home to both take care of the house and stay updated on my blog writing.  It was a great set-up, and I thought it would be easy to maintain once the school year started up again.  After all, I’d be home by 3 p.m. every day, and have plenty of time to do what I need to do!  However, I forgot the busyness of our lives during the school year… church meetings, youth group activities, doctor’s appointments, visiting parents, and all sorts of last minute plans that arise.

So for the last few weeks, I have been running around like crazy, blogging when I have a moment, cleaning when I have a few moments….

Today was the day I had planned to write my next post, “The Gracious Wife versus the Angry Wife.”  I had been thinking about it all week, waiting for the one day that I had a few HOURS of uninterrupted time at home.  Jason would be out, and this was my chance!  Unfortunately, the house also needed several hours of my attention, which I was going to give it… maybe… after I wrote a wonderful blog post.

I wrote a list of all the things that needed to be done… and Jason warned me beforehand that I needed to get it done, and not spend 4 hours on the computer.  Begrudgingly, I agreed.

I took the opportunity to submit to my husband, and my computer didn’t even go on until 6 p.m.! (and I have to leave for church at 6:30 p.m.) It’s amazing how much work I got done when I didn’t have the temptation of checking blog stats, email, or Twitter updates every few minutes!!

I wanted to share with you a moment where I could have rebelled against my husband, done my own thing, and made lame excuses why the housework didn’t get done… but instead I chose to submit, and I actually found joy in cleaning my bathroom!

I’m still not perfect, and I still have a long way to go, but I certainly am striving!!

Do you have any “striving” stories from this week? Any instances where you submitted, even when you didn’t want to, but God blessed you for it?  I’d love to hear them…. your stories are always an inspiration and an encouragement to me!!

Keep on striving!!

Heather

  1. No striving this week, as I’m sick, but I can relate to submitting to your husband over the internet thing. I actually stopped blogging for a bit because it was becoming an issue. Now I have my sweetie’s blessing, as long as I’m not neglecting the kids or the stuff I need to do. And not spending hours online! It’s been so much better!

  2. Andrea, thanks for sharing!

I definitely need to make sure that I don’t neglect the housework or my hubby (no kids - yet) to Twitter or blog…. especially because I’m blogging about being a better wife!!! haha That would defeat the purpose. :)

Now I’ll practice submission one more time tonight, by logging off so my hubby can get to bed early!
