I have been a wife for 2 years now, and I must admit that it is not always easy.  …Perhaps that’s why there’s so many books written about it?  Anyway, I began reading the book, “A Wife After God’s Own Heart,” by Elizabeth George a few weeks ago.  It has been very insightful, and it got me thinking about what kind of wife I am.

Am I a GOOD wife?  Sometimes…

Am I a GODLY wife?  I hope to be…

Am I a wife AFTER GOD’S OWN HEART?  I am striving to be…

And that’s when it hit me.. I am a STRIVING wife.  I am striving towards perfection, towards Godliness, towards being better at this wife thing every day.

I know I am not alone, either.

My hope and prayer is that as I learn, grow, and strive, I’ll help other young wives in the same situation.  Please leave comments, share your stories and advice, and let’s strive together to be Godly wives!!

Oh Heather — I was so excited when I found your blog. Elizabeth George has been a mentor of mine for many years. I have read almost all of her books but “A Wife After Gods Own Heart” is one of my favorites. I had the priviledge of attending a conference she spoke at years back and I was so excited when I got to meet her and chat with her a bit! She has a gentle and quiet spirit…what a Godly example she is. I look forward to reading more and more of your blog!

  2. Thanks Michele!

I look forward to any input you can give! As a young wife, I’m still learning and growing SO MUCH (as I’m sure a wife at any point still does), but it’s so nice to hear from those who’ve been married much longer.

By the way, every time I hear the song “I Will Be Here” I think of Israel singing it to you on your wedding day… one of the most romantic wedding moments in history! :)

  3. Hey Heather! I read your blog! Awesome! I have read A wife after God’s own heart and to have found that it was amazing! I read it the 1st year I was married..a few years ago (6 years) and I also read a women after God’s own heart and a MOm after God’s own heart and found them all to be life changing! I also thought you had a great idea! I’ll be praying for you as you are on this Blogging journey! I love being a wife (and a mom too) but I also Like what you said about following your husband and his leadership, I think as Christian’s we get jugged as being too submissive, but isn’t that what God calls us to to do , its very clear in Eph. and sometimes its hard to bite your toungue on things, but I have learned that God always finds a way for you to share what s on your heart in the right time, I dont know if i made any sense there but anywyas Thanks for writing I’ll be checking back soon!! In God’s love, stacey

  4. Very cool H! (I was trying to think of something deeply profound to write here, but nothing’s coming to me at the moment :).

I think we’ll always be striving to become more proverbs 31-ish and the best wives we can be. One of the best advice Jon and I ever got was not very sophisticated or anything- it was simply this: to focus on what each of us can do to make the other’s day just a little bit better. Whether it be a little note or a card or some randomness, it helps keep things new and exciting :)… especially with kids :)

Thanks Heather for inviting me to read your blog. I am so very happy for you. Being married 42 years has been a “learning experience for me every day” to say they very least. I too admire Elizabeth Elliot though I must remind everyone to go to God’s word for instruction then to Ms Elliot I have many of her books. O Heather I learned this after many years. Albert likes to call it Jeanette’s theory HAT…no decisions if he is hungry angry ot tired :B So pray and before asking our Beloved’s anything think about my HAT theory. I see the love in your eyes for Jason and am so happy for you.

  6. Hi Heather! I found you through the CWO group on Facebook. I just wanted to say that I absolutely LOVE your purpose! We should always be striving to be wives after God’s own heart (love Elizabeth George, too, by the way!)

God bless you in your marriage and as you minister through your blog!
